Applications of Generative AI in Video Game Production

Generative AI has taken the world by storm, this much is abundantly clear. Technology giants across the board, like Microsoft and Apple, are integrating large language models into their software offerings, and ChatGPT has become a truly household name. While there are no current statistics, it isn't a stretch to claim that most people who work regularly with electronics have tried these systems.

Yet, the air is filled with fear and uncertainty. Generative AI is a great tool, but is it too great? There is a permeating anxiety that human labor is going to be replaced en masse by these new generative systems. From creative writing to business reports, algorithm design to code reviews, image generation to video creation and beyond, generative AI models seem to have spared no field.

There is no industry like video games that is quite as universally affected by these developments. By their nature as extremely rich multimedia products, video games are affected by nearly every application of generative AI.

This work seeks to research the implications and practical applications of generative AI at every stage of video game production. The core goal is to develop a theoretical set of goals and principles to help guide the implementation of generative AI in the industry in as sustainable a way as possible.
