How financially literate are Swiss politicians ?
Financial literacy is the ability of an individual to be aware of his financial situation, to be educated enough on the subject to manage his wealth and to take decisions leading to a financial impact on his actual and future situation. This highlights the importance of financial literacy for each citizen on his own, but also for a democratic country, as the economic strength of it depends on the education of its citizens and their political representatives. The more financially literate the politicians are, the better their decisions and speeches will be, regarding the defense of citizen's interests. Financial literacy is of national interest and should be promoted at all levels. Since many institutions are closely related to politics, i.e., politicians are important actors regarding economics and laws such as pension reform, it is crucial to know what level of financial literacy do the Swiss politicians have and what is the relevance of the subject among the political sphere.
The main goal of the present study is to analyze the financial literacy of Swiss politicians based on sociodemographic characteristics, as well as other relevant aspects, such as party membership, through an online survey with the goal of at least 300 participations.
